Greetings In the Name of the Lord:
Psalm 100:4-5 (NLT)
Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! It is a national holiday in which we thank the Almighty for our many blessings. It was established, interestingly enough, during the Civil War (1861-1865). Now you might think that there wasn’t much to be thankful for during the time in our history. The nation was at war against itself, many cities were decimated, portions of the country we basically starving, and there were many communities that no longer had a male population because they all died in battle. Yet President Abraham Lincoln (the finest President in our history in my opinion) saw that if we were going to survive as a nation it could only come through the blessings of the Almighty. The picture attached to this blog was one I found on Facebook this week. It tells me something that all people, regardless of their time frame, need to take to heart. We may think that there isn’t much to be thankful for in our present time. The economy is bad, gas prices are high, jobs are scarce, and the nation is divided. In addition to all this, our recent election did noting but increased the rift between the American people. More people have “un-friended “ others on Facebook over the election that at any time in the social networks history. However, the key, as Mr. Lincoln I believe would say, is realizing that we cannot and will not find solutions to our problems without the blessings of the Almighty. We need at this time to remember the words of Jesus who said, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (Jn. 15:5, NLT). Let us give thanks and turn our hearts back to the Almighty and pray for his blessings for our nation. God bless America!
